Campbell is recognized internationally in the field of applied fisheries science for his contributions to adaptive management and development of formal management procedures and genetic methods for internationally managed tuna fisheries. Since 2006 he has led CSIRO’s scientific advice to the Australian Fisheries Management Authority and the Australian delegation to the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT), and played a significant role in the recovery of the species and fishery.
